Carpet Cleaning FAQ — Studio City, CA
Common questions from homeowners in Studio City and the surrounding area. If your question isn't here, call us and we'll give you a straight answer.
When can we walk on the carpet again after you finish?
Most rooms are dry in about six to ten hours with hot-water extraction. Studio City helps here. Low humidity most of the year and hot dry summers in the Valley pull moisture out faster than the coastal basin gets. You can walk on damp carpet in clean socks right away, though we ask you to hold off on shoes and heavy furniture until it's fully dry. If you're on a shaded hillside street or we're working in winter, we bring air movers and set them where airflow is weakest.

What does a cleaning appointment look like from arrival to finish?
We start by walking the rooms with you, noting stains, pet spots and any seams or wear you're concerned about. Then we vacuum dry soil, apply a pre-spray suited to the fiber, and agitate it into traffic lanes so the solution has time to break down oils and grit. Hot-water extraction follows, pulling the dissolved soil and most of the moisture back out. We finish with spot treatment on anything that resisted, groom the pile, place blocks under furniture legs, and walk the job with you before we pack up.

Hot-water extraction, shampooing, dry cleaning: which one do I need?
Hot-water extraction is what we use on most jobs. It rinses deep, removes the pre-spray along with the soil, and it's what Shaw, Mohawk and Stainmaster generally specify for warranty purposes. Shampooing uses a rotary brush and foam. It has a place on heavily greased commercial nylon, but it can leave residue that attracts soil back. Low-moisture dry cleaning is for wool and delicate weaves like some Karastan and Masland goods, or for an office that can't be closed for a day. We tell you which one we're recommending and why before we touch anything.

How often should carpet actually get cleaned?
Every 12 to 18 months covers a typical household. Move to every six to nine months if you have dogs, kids, or a canyon-adjacent house where dry chaparral soil and oak leaf litter track in constantly. Santa Ana events in fall push dust, grit and fine ash indoors through window gaps and doorways, and that grit is abrasive enough to cut fibers underfoot. Manufacturers including Anderson Tuftex and Mohawk also tie warranty coverage to documented professional cleaning on a schedule, so keep your receipts.

How is the cost worked out?
Square footage is the starting point, then we adjust for how many rooms, stairs, closets and hallways are involved. Carpet condition matters more than most people expect. Heavy pet contamination, set-in traffic lanes and wool fiber all take extra time and different chemistry. Access plays in too, since a third-floor courtyard apartment off Ventura Blvd runs longer hose than a single-story ranch on the flats. The estimate is free, you get a firm quote in writing before we start, and it doesn't move unless you add work.

Do you move the furniture, or should we?
We move sofas, chairs, coffee tables, dining sets and light dressers, then set them back on blocks or foam pads so damp carpet doesn't stain from wood or metal feet. We leave beds with drawers underneath, pianos, large china cabinets, electronics and anything mounted or fragile where they are, and we clean around them. If you want those areas done, empty and move them before we arrive. Clearing small items off the floor ahead of time speeds up the whole appointment.

Which stains come out and which ones are permanent?
Food, drink, mud, tracked-in dust, most pet accidents, grease and general traffic soil usually come out or improve a lot. Older wine, coffee and pet urine that has sat long enough to reach the backing and pad may lighten but not vanish, and urine sometimes needs sub-surface treatment or pad replacement. Bleach, benzoyl peroxide from acne cream, drain cleaner and sun fading are dye loss, not soil, so no cleaning removes them. Those need repair or patching. We'll tell you straight which category your spot falls into when we look at it, not after we've charged you.

Are the products you use safe with a dog and a small child in the house?
Yes. We use pH-balanced, biodegradable solutions and rinse them out with the extraction pass, so nothing is left sitting in the fiber for little hands or paws. Keep pets and kids in another room while we work, mostly because of hoses and wet floors, and let them back in once the carpet is dry to the touch. If anyone in the house has asthma or a fragrance sensitivity, say so when you book and we'll switch to a fragrance-free option.

Do you clean upholstery, area rugs and tile too?
We do. Sofas, sectionals, dining chairs and mattresses get cleaned with the same extraction method scaled down and matched to the fabric. Area rugs can be cleaned in place if the construction allows, or picked up for a full wash when they're wool, silk-blend or hand-knotted. Tile and grout is a separate process using pressure and a rinse tool, and it's common in the postwar ranch tracts on the flats where kitchens and entries are original. Bundling rooms into one visit usually saves you a trip charge.

Is today possible, and where do you cover?
Same-day slots open up regularly, especially midweek, so call in the morning and we'll tell you honestly what's left. We cover all of Studio City, which sits on the south floor of the San Fernando Valley at the base of the Santa Monica Mountains, split by Ventura Blvd and the LA River channel. That includes the 1920s-40s Spanish and traditional cottages on the hillside streets, the postwar ranch tracts on the flats, the 1960s-80s dingbat and courtyard apartment stock along the boulevards, and newer hillside rebuilds. We also work the surrounding Valley neighborhoods; ask when you call and we'll confirm your address.
